This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data when you use the Alertly mobile application.
We are Alertly, the owner and operator of Alertly. We are based in Alberta, Canada.

You must be at least 13 years old to use Alertly. Users under 18 require parental or guardian consent.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent
The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors without parental consent.
We collect the following data only with your explicit permission:
- Name, email address.
Incident media. Photos, videos, text and audio you submit when reporting an incident.
Optional profile photo. You may upload or update this at any time.

We collect your precise location while the app is in use to show nearby incidents and help first responders reach the scene.
Background Location (iOS NSLocationAlwaysAndWhenInUseUsageDescription):
If you allow “Always,” we may collect location in the background to track new incidents in real time even when the app is closed.
Device and network data. Device model, OS version, IP address, and app usage statistics to improve performance and prevent abuse.
Camera (iOS NSCameraUsageDescription): Accessed only when you take a photo or video within the app.
Photo Library
Read access (iOS NSPhotoLibraryUsageDescription): To select existing images.
Write access (iOS NSPhotoLibraryAddUsageDescription): To save incident photos back to your library.
Microphone (iOS NSMicrophoneUsageDescription): Accessed only when you record audio notes for an incident.
We register your device for remote notifications (APNs/Expo Push Service) so you receive real‑time alerts about new incidents in your saved areas. You can disable push notifications anytime in your device settings.
No personal data beyond your device token is shared with third parties for this purpose.
We use your data to:
- Provide you with app functionality (e.g. report, view, and verify incidents).
- Improve app safety and moderation.
- Detect and prevent fraud or abuse.
- Comply with legal obligations.
Data is stored on servers located in Canada and may be processed by third‑party providers under strict confidentiality agreements.”
We do not sell your personal data.
We may share limited data:
- With service providers (e.g. servers, analytics tools) under strict confidentiality agreements.
- If legally required (e.g., by court order).
- With law enforcement if there's a credible threat to public safety.
- Any photos, videos, or text you submit may be visible to other users.
- You are solely responsible for the legality of the content you share.
- Do not upload personal data (e.g., faces, addresses, license plates) without consent or blurring.
- We store your data on secure servers located in Canada.
- We apply encryption, access control, and other industry-standard measures to protect your information.
- Despite these efforts, no system is 100% secure, and you use the App at your own risk.
- Account data is retained as long as your account is active.
- Incident reports and UGC may be kept for community safety, unless removal is requested or legally mandated.
You can request data deletion by emailing us at: support@alertly.ca.
Depending on your location, you may have rights to:
- Access your data.
- Correct or delete your data.
- Withdraw consent.
- Object to certain types of processing.

We may update this Privacy Policy. The latest version will always be available in the App. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
